Gabriel Porritt

I'm a conservation scientist and science journalist based at The University of Queensland, St Lucia campus. I currently study a Master of Conservation Science within the School of Biological Science. Having completed the coursework component of the program in June 2020, I am now conducting research under the supervision of Prof Peter Mumby to analyse the design of marine reserves for biodiversity conservation objectives.

Outside of university, I host a weekly science show on South-East Queensland's community radio station. Bridging the gap between science and practice through effective and engaging science communication has always been a core driver of my professional work. But in a world of pseudoscience and misinformation, it is imperative to me that I always remain a scientist who does journalism, not a journalist who covers science. I'm always open to new opportunities and to help out where I can, so please feel free to get in touch!
